Mako was named after the Mako shark, because of the super sharp teeth he had as a puppy. Being the youngest of 3 kids, he is a bit of a mummy’s boy and tends to go sulk, when everyone gets ready to go to school. He can be a bit bossy and has given himself the job as “hall monitor” and won’t allow ANYONE to run up or down the hallway for some reason. If one of the kids even thinks about running, he starts barking and chasing them, telling them to stop. Mako has 2 best friends, number one is Pip, his next door neighbor (chihuahua 4 years), they share bones and love jumping on the trampoline together. Then there is Rosie ( Whippet 2 years) and they love running on the beach and digging holes to China. Mr Mako has slotted extremely well, into the Newland household and has a unique relationship, with every member of the family.

Tank is one of the most amazing dogs I have ever met, beside being really really really ridiculously good looking, his sole purpose in life is to keep his owner, Amy, alive.
He was trained in Las Vegas by the the US Diabetic Alert Dogs of America. He is able to detect when Amy’s blood sugar levels drop too low or become to high. Twenty four hours a day, 7 days a week, Tank will alert Amy with a gentle tap to the belly. Even in the middle of the night he will stand over her and boop her in the face to wake up. He is far more accurate than any machine and has saved her life hundreds, if not thousands of times over the last 2 years. Thanks to Tank Amy has been able to have Ella and now there’s another little sister on the way.
Tank is also a typical 3 year old pup who loves going for walks, cuddles on the couch and playing with little sister. He is a very patient loving big brother to Ella, even though they sometimes argue over toys. Tank also has a security blanky, that he will bring to the door when you arrive, which you can look at, but don’t touch.
With the most soulful beautiful eyes, that draw you in and his unusual coloring everyone stops on the street to ask what breed he is. He often gets mistaken for a Weimaraner because of the his silver fur.
All in all, I would have to say my favorite thing about Tank is that bottom lip. It’s so human like and when he pouts it’s next level cute.

These are just some highlights of the Halloween Dog Show, I photographed yesterday, at the Beresford Hotel in Sydney. So many beautiful fur babies came out, dressed up in fun costumes, with their owners. There was a doggy marketplace, with stalls from Dogue, Bondi Behaviorist, Monika’s Doggie Rescue, Dog Trax, Savor Life and Woof Gateaux. Lots of great prizes and a parade to show off all the pups. As you can see from the images, it was just a big puppy patting fest, that made everyone smile.
I took over 500 images on the day, so if you were at the event yesterday with your dog, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org , with a description of your pup and I can send you send you their portraits digitally for sharing on social media.

I met Miss Brezzy Pug at the Dougue store opening in Avalon. Because I am obsessed with pugs, I started talking to her owner, then tagged @brezzypug in a instagrm post that day. Later that day, I got a message from her owners Carlos and Amelia, asking if I had a cousin called Amelia. I said yes, but I haven’t seen her since I was a child. It had been at least 30 years since I would have seen Amelia and her family, so it’s no surprise we didn’t recognize each other at first. I love how dogs bring people together and spread joy where ever they go, especially Breezy. Who can resists that beautiful happy face and all those rolls. Breezy has a little sass to her as well, she likes the finer things in life and tries to trick mummy and daddy into thinking she hasn’t been fed and they often fall for it. Breezy was adopted at 18 months old from the inner west Sydney and came with the name Sea Breeze, which seemed strange at first, but now perfect as she has lived across the road from Curl Curl beach for the last 5 years.

It was a great turnout this Saturday at the Dogue store opening in Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Lots of locals and insta famous pups came along for unlimited treats and and to see the new stylish Dogue space, for doggie grooming and more. It’s always great connecting with fellow dog loving people and meeting cute new furry faces. As you can see from the images, it was a fabulous afternoon, with fashion parades and photo booth fun for everyone.

Miss Pippa Doodleton does NYC right, she is a service dog and gets to go anywhere and do anything she wants basically. If she MUST get up in the morning, she loves going to work with her mum and getting pats and attention from all her co workers. Pippa also has some interesting phobias, which include black suitcase “ONLY” and plastic bags of all colors. She likes to steal pillows and laz around in bed on her days off. This girl is one of the most well trained, sweet natured pups you could ever wish for though, she was an absolute dream to photograph. She even attracted big crowds on the streets of Soho, working her poses for the camera.

I met Mr Teddy Bear Sea Boy in Provincetown, Cape Cod Massachusetts. He works in an amazing Estate Jewelry store, called “September Morn” on Commercial Street in P town. It’s his 2nd season at the store and he loves meeting all the people that visit the store throughout the summer. Teddy got his full name “Teddy Bear Sea Boy” by being a lucky boy that lives on the beach and because he also loves to sit and watch the waves with his owner Ronnie. They also have a little gratitude bench they sit on daily and think about what they are grateful for and they always send out positive thoughts and love to all.

Mr Maverick traveled all the way down from Delaware for his photo shoot in Central Park. He was adopted by Geoff and Brandi at 7 weeks old, to help heal their broken hearts after loosing their precious Pug to old age, very recently. His constant happy personality and and wagging tail brings so much joy to them and everyone he meets.
He is a such a baby in so many ways, he loves to bite toes and get ups to typical puppy mischief. He even fell asleep during our portrait session and when he yawns, he shakes his head from side to side and whistles. Soooooo CUTE!

The power of a portrait… Photography is a powerful tool. A good photo documents, explains, entices, incriminates, inspires, and even has the power to saves lives.
It’s not easy seeing these beautiful, innocent creatures caged in underfunded, understaffed conditions and knowing the stories of how they ended up here. Its physically hard and emotionally hard to be able to capture their true personalities in such a short amount of time, but it’s not about me or my emotions and challenges. It’s about giving each of these special dogs a better chance at finding loving homes. Its about doing what we can to make sure any kind of abuse or neglect will never EVER happen again. I am always blown away by a dogs capacity to love humans the way they do, even after they were not shown the same kindness. Its such an admirable trait they have to love unconditionally, all animals deserve to be protected and cared for.
Within 2 weeks of these images being posted on social media, 7 out the 12 were adopted and a few went to breed specific rescue shelters. So all the sad feeling and occasional tears are totally worth it.
Please consider donating what you can to a local rescue, that you are passionate about, whether its with time, talents, money or food, blankets, towels and beds.
” The kindness one does for one animal may not change the world,… but it WILL change the world of that one animal.”

This big beautiful boy is only 6 months and will probably end up weighing around 170 pounds. Newfoundlands were originally bred and used as working dog for fishermen in the Dominion of Newfoundland. Newfoundland dogs excel at water rescue / lifesaving because of their muscular build, thick double coat, webbed feet, and innate swimming abilities. So it’s no surprise that Charlie is obsessed with the water already. He loves going to the beach and even tries swimming in the comunal water bowl at the dog park.
